Get ready for the new daily show

Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller getting her own HBO Max series

It looks like Viola Davis may be getting ready to be one of DC’s most badass characters again as word is she’s getting her own The Suicide Squad/Peacemaker spinoff series as Amanda Waller at HBO Max.

Davis has played Waller, the take-no-nonsense boss of Task Force X, better known as The Suicide Squad, in the original Suicide Squad movie as well as James Gunn’s sequel and hit spinoff TV series, so she’s no stranger to the role and is definitely someone DC fans will want to see return.

Gunn previously hinted he’s developing a new series in the DC universe (here) and that it’s likely based in a character we already know, so could this be it?

In the Peacemaker series – which is superb, by the way – Davis appeared briefly after we learned that Danielle Brooks’ character Adebayo (left) was Waller’s Daughter and the new series, while still top secret, is expected to build on that relationship.

Davis is expected to produce the series with Watchmen and If You Don’t Like My Story, Write Your Own’s Christal Henry penning it.

Davis’ portrayal of Waller is one of the best in the DCEU and we’re excited to have her back in any capacity, but we really hope this becomes part of the Suicide Squad story, with Waller leading teams of misfit heroes and villains on crazy adventures and tasks while trying to reconnect with her daughter… there’s a lot of fun to be had from a set-up like that.

With The CW’s Arrowverse universe of shows all but gone, all eyes will be looking toward HBO Max to build the DC brand on the small screen to be the best it possibly can be and getting Davis and Gunn together again would be a great place to start.

Thoughts?
