We finally have a teaser trailer for Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon!
It looks great and yes, it’s got the Iron Throne, dragons, fighting families and Matt Smith with glorious blonde hair.
The series is based on George RR Martin’s novel Fire & Blood and will be a ten-episode prequel depicting “how the House of Targaryen fell into a bitter and brutal civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons — presaging the beginning of the end of the ruling family of Westeros”.
Can it capture the magic of the first few seasons of Game of Thrones? Personally, I’m not convinced the world cares as much as it did a few years ago, but I know the series was a big hit at FTN HQ, so we’ll be hoping it’s a return to form as we really need some good swords, sorcery and dragons on our TV screens; not only that but the cast, made up of Paddy Considine (as King Viserys I), Emmy D’Arcy (as Princess Rhaenrya, Viserys’ first child and his heir apparent), Matt Smith (as Prince Daemon, Viserys’ younger brother), Rhys Ifans (as Ser Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King), Olivia Cooke (as Lady Alicent Hightower, Otto’s daughter) and Fabien Frankel (as Ser Criston Cole, a knight with eyes for Rhaenrya), has us pretty darned giddy.
HBO and HBO Max chief Casey Bloys has previously said they expect to make a second season of the show, so it’s a safe bet there’s a much bigger story lying ahead.
History does not remember blood. It remembers names. August 21.
