A new trailer for Star Trek: Discovery is here and it’s bringing the classic era of Trek back to life in a big way!
With Ethan Peck appearing as Spock, Anson Mount as Pike and Rebecca Romijn as Number One all featuring in the trailer, it seems that we can get ready for more classic Trek characters appearing.
Speaking at NY Comic Con at the weekend, co-creator Alex Kurtzman was asked if more classic faces could appear: “Yes!” was his simple answer.
He, for one, named dropped the Talosians who are the alines from The Cage, the original pilot of Star Trek which actually featured Captain Pike and, curiously, also Spock and Number One.
“The Enterprise will play a part of Season Two but it will absolutely not overshadow Discovery,” said Kurtzman.
“And I think with Enterprise’s arrival in the finale we recognize that the audience has a lot of questions about our synchronicity with the original series, which really means or synchronicity with canon. So the promise of the Enterprise holds the answers to a lot of those questions, including Spock’s relationship with his half-sister who he’s never mentioned. Which does not necessarily mean you’re going to see Spock, just that we owe an answer to that question.
“Season One was really about the war and how the war-tested our ideals as Starfleet. It was very much about Michael’s story arc and her getting comfortable on Discovery. Fundamentally, it was really about bringing that crew together as a family. If you look at the crew in the beginning, they’re very separate and they’re not really connected yet. They are not sure of each other and their place on the ship. Over the course of the season, they really become a family.”
From the look of this new trailer (below), Star Trek Discovery is going to feature plenty of classic looking Trek nods and who knows where it will go from here… where no man has gone before? Likely.
Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Shazad Latif, Anthony Rapp, Mary Wiseman, Jason Isaacs, Wilson Cruz, Michelle Yeoh, Ethan Peck, and Anson Mount. The second season will premiere on January 17, 2019, on CBS All Access.
