If, like all of us here at FTN Towers, you loved TMNT: Mutant Mayhem, then have we a treat for you tonight!
The first trailer has dropped for Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, an all-new animated series that acts as a sequel to Mutant Mayhem and a bridge to Mutant Mayhem 2.
At the end of Mutant Mayhem, you’ll recall that our Heroes in the Half-shell were no longer hiding in the sewers but rather, had gone public and were even attending school! It was a brave, unexpected and new direction for the TMNT story and the new series will see how that works out for the brothers before they meet their fiercest enemy, Shredder, in Mutant Mayhem 2.
On Shredder’s appearance in the second movie, director Jeff Rowe said he has to be way scarier than Superfly [voiced by Ice Cube].
He also alluded to one of comic book cinema’s greatest villains: “Shredder used to be the main villain before we pivoted away from that. They saved Joker for The Dark Knight… The one thing I can say without spoiling anything is, [Shredder] needs to be 100 times scarier than Superfly – who is a credible villain, he’s dangerous, he’s strong, he seems like he could mess the Turtles up. Shredder needs to be that, just significantly more.”
While the Turtles’ learning to fight from old movies in the first movie was a big misstep, it did very little else wrong, so I can’t wait to see more of this version of these characters… just a pity the animation in the new series wasn’t the same as the first movie, but I’m not complaining, well, not really.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have climbed out of the sewers and onto the streets in this brand-new series. This time, everyone’s favorite pizza-loving heroes are faced with new threats and team up with old allies to survive both teenage life and new villains lurking in the shadows of New York City.
