E3 UPDATE: XBox Voice coming to Irish gamers

June 10th, 2014 by Marc Comments

On the heels of the Xbox Media Briefing at E3 we want to share an update with you on voice coming to Xbox One in Ireland.

XBox released the following statement late last night:

We’re happy to confirm that starting in July, Xbox One customers in Ireland will be given the option to turn on voice control and use the existing English voice model, allowing you to control your Xbox One with the sound of your voice, switching between games and entertainment by simply saying commands like, “Xbox, go to Forza Motorsport 5,” “Xbox, go to Xbox Video,” “Xbox, go home” among others. This will be part of the public preview first and will roll out to users throughout the market shortly thereafter. As always, roll out timing is contingent on user feedback and engineering considerations.

While the experience is not completely localised for Ireland and we have more work to do, we want users to be able to enable existing voice models while we work to add more voice features over time through subsequent system updates. Our vision is to bring conversational voice to every country where we sell Xbox and we are working hard to deliver on that promise.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
