Five Accessories That Will Enhance Your Next-Gen Gaming Experience

April 16th, 2014 by Marc Comments

Whilst many of us are already loving our next-gen consoles, it’s already become obvious that you can enhance your next-gen gaming experience even further with a few shiny new accessories. And we’re not just talking about a new controller. Here’s a bunch of stuff that will really make your next-gen experience go with a bang.

1. Turtle Beaches

As far as gaming headsets go, Turtle Beach is the industry standard at the moment. They stock so many models there’s bound to be one that will suit your budget and specific requirements. Wired, wireless, loom mic, surround sound; you name it, they have it. A good gaming headset will give you the tactical advantage in any multi player FPS, and allow you to play video games till dawn on the sly. Special edition Turtle Beach headsets are exclusively available from GAME.

“Besides, if you want to get the most out of the in-game sound effects and avoid being disturbed in a competitive match, why not consider investing in noise canceling earbudsto enjoy your games to the fullest?”

2. Xbox One Play and Charge Kit

As if Microsoft is in cahoots with Duracell, the latest Xbox has again been released without rechargeable controllers. The Xbox One play and charge kit is basically a rechargeable lithium battery pack and a micro USB cable. It won’t enhance your next gen gaming experience per se, but it will nonetheless eliminate those moments where you have to nip out the shop for more AAs mid-kill streak.

3. Mad Catz Pro Racing Force Feedback Wheel

Now this little contraption will delight all you petrol-headed racing fans out there. It’s not just any gaming wheel either. This one has inbuilt motors that simulate torque, allowing you to better judge traction at crucial apexes. The suede steering wheel along with aluminium panel gear shifts and pedals, will make you feel like you’re really winning the Grand Prix, minus the champagne and hot girls. Looks to tie in nicely with driving sims like Forza Motorsport 5 and Gran Turismo 6.

4. PS4 VR Headset

Rumours are rife about the existence of a Virtual Reality headset for PS4. Reports suggest we may be seeing it for the first time very soon. If the rumours turn out to be true, we could be seeing a competitor to the hugely anticipated, but PC only, Oculus Rift VR headset, and a huge play by Sony in the console wars. Speculation aside, a VR headset has the potential change the way we game forever.

5. Acer S240HLBID LED Lit monitor

Any dedicated game geek will tell you that a specially designed monitor can enhance your gaming experience drastically. If you want to avoid a screen that isn’t more expensive than the console itself, Acer are known for delivering cheap yet powerful models, and are very popular. This 24″, 1080p model is ideal for a cosy console gaming set-up, and you can use it with other peripherals as well. Just try not to burn the backs of your eyeballs!

And that just about raps things up: five reasons why next-gen can be made even better with the right accessories. It’s time to get planning that next purchase for your complete gaming experience.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
