Looks like there’s some cool stuff coming up for The Walking Dead gamers…

So, an interview with Telltale Games CEO, Dan Connors, on uh…Red Bull’s website (read the full article here) threw up some interesting information with regards to the second season of the hugely successful The Walking Dead game.
But the most intriguing aspect of the article is this quote: “Right now we are just starting to form the concept for season two,” he says. “This all remains to be seen but we are definitely figuring out how to carry the saves over.”
Wait, what? Carrying saves over? It had long been thought that the second season of the point and click version of Robert Kirkman’s Walking Dead universe would be completely new. The news that it might not be is, frankly, amazing. If only for the fact that games rarely, if ever, carry saves over into a sequel (the only notable exception being Mass Effect), but it will allow players the chance to deepen and further the relationships already built up in the first season. Well, with those characters still alive anyway. And presumably this means that any decisions Lee made and Clementine noticed will be remembered and have an effect on the gameplay in the second season? Sign me up for that. Like, right now.
It’ll be interesting to see how the second season of the game shapes up. With the overwhelmingly positive response to the relationship between Clem and Lee in season one, Telltale have a lot to live up to in the sophomore season.
Hopefully the next installment will answer some of those burning questions we’ve had since the end of the Game of the Year-winning first season as well. Like: what happened to Clem after she left Lee/shot him dead? Will we ever find out who those two figures were in the distance in the post credits sting? Is Kenny really dead? And will it make me cry like a little girl all over again? I for one cannot wait to find out.
Although the answer to that last question is, probably, yes.
