As we reported a while ago (here), it looks like Bran and Hodor won’t be appearing in Game Of Thrones Season 5, this was after Kristian Nairn (Hodor) accidentally leaked they were on a year’s hiatus.
Last we saw Bran Stark (Isaac Hempsted-Wright) he had reached a cave and was settling in to train, having finally found the three-eyed raven and become the force it looks like he’s set to become in the war for the Iron Throne.
Now series co-creator, David Benioff, has chatted to Entertainment Weekly about this very thing: “Even though we’re making changes to the books and adapting as necessary, we’re trying to keep the various storylines the same as the books and trying to keep them roughly [chronologically] parallel. And last year we caught up to the end of Bran’s storyline [in A Dance with Dragons]. So if we pushed him forward this season, then he’s way ahead of where the other characters are.
“[Bran]‘s now entering a training period which is going to take quite some time, [and] much of [it] isn’t particularly cinematic.” He’s referring to Bran’s journey in the books, training (presumably) in the cave, “Rather than being stuck in a cave for a year, we figured it would be interesting to leave him out for a little bit, so when you see him again…” and he left it there.
So it looks like we just have to wait and see Bran’s Return of the Jedi-type reveal in Season 6. Well, we sort of figured all this, but it’s nice to have it concerned.
