It’s been well noted that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had a unique opportunity when asked to come on board the SHAZAM! movie. By that I mean he was offered the choice to either be SHAZAM! or Black Adam. As we all know, he’ll play the villainous yet very anti-heroish Black Adam. But that does leave the question: Why did he choose him?

“I felt ultimately, and this is with all due respect to Shazam/Billy Batson, it’s a mythology that I love; it’s been with me for almost ten years now; what made me choose Black Adam? I just felt Black Adam was inherently more interesting to me because I felt there were more layers to Black Adam starting out as a slave and then ultimately becoming the anti-hero who we enjoy today”, he said.

It’s also been noted that he asked fans whom they wanted him to play, though the votes were close, Black Adam won in the end. So between the mythology and the fan aspect, it’s easy to see why he choose Black Adam.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
