Late in 2017 after the success of Spider-man: Homecoming rumours began circulating of multiple spin-off movies one of the more obscure rumours was that Sony were looking into the possibility of a movie based on Nightwatch.
Seriously… Nightwatch, you gotta give them credit for going this obscure; for those who may be unfamiliar with the character, Nightwatch’s alter ego, Dr Kevin Trench, first appeared in 1993.
Most of his appearances came in the 1990s in various titles starring Spider-man and in his own short lived, self-titled series. One of his more prominent roles was in the Maximum Carnage crossover, a fourteen part miniseries that ran in the Spider-Man titles in 1993, his original look was very similar to Spawn but just different enough to not be all lawsuity
Back in September 2017 the rumour was that Now You See Me Screenwriter Ed Ricourt was working on a script, and that the studio hoping to get none other than Spike Lee on board to helm the picture.
Since then the rumour mill had went quiet – however, That Hashtag Show has now provided an update on the project’s status.
According to their sources, Lee is now on board, but he’ll actually be working off a script developed by Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker.
While this is all still very much a rumour, Lee is an amazing director and with the obscure nature of the character could this be the next big R-rated comic book movie.
