TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews The Krypton Season 2 Finale

August 15th, 2019 by Todd Black Comments

This review comes with a bit of anticipation and dread, because at the time of this writing, it’s not clear whether Krypton is going to get a third season (we knew of Season 2 by the time the finale of Season 1 happened in contrast). On one hand, the series is really good, and they’re possibly doing a Lobo spin-off because of the introduction of the character this year. However, that doesn’t mean it’ll continue. It’s up in the air. Which is sad, because while “Alpha and Omega” did a good job of tying up storylines, it’s also true that they were hoping/banking on a third season.

Let’s start with the Season 2 stuff first. I honestly liked how they dealt with Zod after the fall of Wakthor. The moon’s destruction had an effect on the people, as it should. What’s more, many were wondering if Zod’s plans for ascension were valid, or right. Having the “summit” in front of the people was really clever, and showed that sometimes words are more powerful than fists.

Don’t get the wrong idea, there were fights in the episode, including a fun “Parents vs. Child” brawl that was fun (but had so many jump cuts I thought it was Iron Fist. *rimshot*). As well as a fun outside battle that showed Jaina in all her warrior glory.

And the idea of Zod being “detained” via the Black Mercy plant was brilliant. As it’s a bit of justice for what he did to Lyta.

I also appreciated the focus on Adam and his new condition, as well as the loss of Kem. It’s good that they didn’t just rush away from that to deal with Zod.

That being said, while the conflict did end nicely, the aftermath was a bit rushed. Who controls Krypton now? What happens to those loyal to Zod? What is next for Kandor as a city? That’s very much left to interpretation, which is a bit sad as the last 7 minutes or so was set up to preview Season 3.

Such as Nyssa taking Adam’s Zeta Beam device and getting taken to a planet ravaged by…PARADEMONS! Yep, Darkseid is…coming. lol.

Oh, and Lobo’s back! And he’s ticked Brainiac is still alive, so him and Seg are going to go find him and get Jor back. Which is perfect, because Brainiac has plans for Brainiac..and it involves Earth! Not good!

One more thing, did I mention that Adam now has his comic-accurate super suit? Complete with jetpack!!! that’ll be fun.

The point is, “Alpha and Omega” set up the potential for a fun season 3. I just hope we get it.
