So, it looks like we may be on the verge of a new Star Wars movie again pretty soon.
Word on the street is that Sleight writer and director JD Dillard and Luke Cage and Agents of SHIELD writer Matt Owens have been hired to develop a new movie that will be released at Christmas 2022, although it may not be for the big screen as rumour has it it may be set for Disney+.
This project will be unrelated to the one being developed by Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige and hopefully Last Jedi director Rian Johnson won’t be allowed even into the front doors of Lucasfilm again, so it’s unlikely to have anything to do with that either.
Despite Disney boss Bob Iger, who has since stood down but will remain in the role until 2022, saying the future of Star Wars is on TV (“the priority for Star Wars in the short term is going to be, I’ll call it television for Disney+, and then we will have more to say about development of theatrical soon after that.”) – thanks to The Mandalorian – it seems that Disney are still aiming to have new movies released on December 16th, 2022, and then December 2024 and December 2026.
If we hear more, you’ll be first to know…
