WATCH: Ryan Reynolds reveals new release date for Free Guy with new clip

April 11th, 2020 by Marc Comments

With the current release dates of movies being all up-in-the-air, Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy is the latest to get a delay from its original date.

The movie, originally set for a July 3rd release, has now been pushed back to December 11th instead.

Posting the clip (below) on youtube, Reynolds wrote: “Free Guy is moving to Dec. 11.

“Here’s a clip that’s weirdly appropriate. We cut it a while ago (while there was still a Fox and before it was just 20th Century Pictures) and couldn’t finish it so ignore the watermarks. Thanks to Aspect for cutting it.”

So, it looks like the summer movie schedule is well and truly gone for this year, but it just means that when all this madness is over, we have more to look forward to. And Christmas with Ryan Reynolds? I can certainly live with that.

Shawn Levy (Stranger Things, Night at the Museum franchise) directed Free Guy from a script by Matt Lieberman written way back in 2016. In the vein of hits such as Wreck-It-Ralph, Free Guy will follow Guy, a lonely bank teller who discovers he is actually a background character in an open-world video game entitled Free City and works to prevent the makers of the game from shutting it down with the help of an avatar.

In addition to Reynolds, the cast also includes Killing Eve‘s Jodie Comer, Get Out‘s Lil Rel Howery, Stranger Things‘ Joe Keery, Thor: Ragnarok‘s Taika Waititi and Blindspotting‘s Utkarsh Ambudkar.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
