Following their announcement of the War Doctor series with John Hurt, Big Finish have announced another coup for their Doctor Who audio adventures.

Yep, it’s now official: David Tennant and Catherine Tate will be back as the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble for three audio dramas next year. The series will be executive produced by Big Finish’s Jason Haigh-Ellery and Nicolas “voice of the Daleks” Briggs.

Tennant has some history with Big Finish, appearing in seven audio dramas between 2001 and 2005 before being cast as the Tenth Doctor. Haigh-Ellery is clearly keen to welcome him back:

I still remember the sense of joy I had when I heard that David had been asked to play the Doctor. We were all so pleased for him — as we knew how much Doctor Who meant to him. And now David comes full circle, back doing Doctor Who with Big Finish — except that this time he’s playing the Doctor! It’s the same but different — it’s wonderful to have him back!

Similarly, Briggs seems keen to be working with old friend Tennant again:

I’d worked with him on our Dalek Empire series for Big Finish and had such fun. So along with the excitement of directing new Tenth Doctor adventures, I’m so happy to be working with an old chum again.

Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor Adventures will be released in May 2016.

Dave was born at an early age to parents of both sexes. He has been a self-confessed geek for as long as he can remember, having been raised through the 80s on a steady diet of Doctor Who, Star Trek, Red Dwarf and (sigh) Knight Rider. Throw the usual assortment of Saturday morning cartoons into the mix and we have something quite exceptional: someone with an encyclopaedic knowledge of utter tosh; a love of giant robots and spaceships fighting; and the strange desire to leap tall buildings in a single bound while wearing his underpants over his trousers. The death ray is currently in the works and one day you shall all bow to him, his giant space station and fleet of funky orange space shuttles...
