Two major new additions to the Doctor Who Time Lord Victorious multimedia event revealed

October 6th, 2020 by Marc Comments

So, we thought we had found out all the releases to be included in the Doctor Who multimedia event, Time Lord Victorious by this stage (see here), but today BBC and Big Finish both announced two big inclusions to the who story.

First up, the BBC are releasing a Blu-ray collection called Time Lord Victorious: Road to the Dark Times, which will feature TV stories from the third Doctor (Jon Pertwee), the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker), the Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy – my Doctor) and the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) and, as the title suggests, this will be stories that lead up to and tie into the Time Lord Victorious storyline – a kind refresher course, if you will.

Here’s the press release:

The Dark Times threaten all of space and time, and the Doctor’s path to becoming the Time Lord Victorious has been centuries in the making. But when did it start? You can mark the path to Time Lord Victorious with this new Blu-ray release, containing multiple classic and modern Doctor Who stories.

This compendium of stories all link into Time Lord Victorious, and allow you to catch up on some of the alien races and creatures found in the Dark Times.

“For a long time now, I thought I was just a survivor, but I’m not. I’m the winner. That’s who I am. The Time Lord Victorious” The Tenth Doctor
The Stories featured in this Blu-ray Collection are:

Planet of the Daleks
Genesis of the Daleks
The Deadly Assassin
State of Decay
The Curse of Fenric
The Runaway Bride
The Waters of Mars

Inside the Blu-Ray collection there is a guide to every story and more context on how each one fits into the larger narrative of Time Lord Victorious, written by producer James Goss.

Time Lord Victorious: Road to the Dark Times will be released on 9th November.

Honestly, maybe it’s because of the whole lockdown thing but this whole event has really captured my imagination and, even though I’ve seen all these stories over the years, I cannot wait to sit down over a few days and get these all watched because, while it is a bit of a cash grab, there’s come truly great stories in here and the more Daleks the better.

But that’s not all, on top of all this, Big finish, who previously said we knew all the releases coming in the TLV story, just revealed a whole new adventure starring the one and only Tom Baker and the Doctor’s greatest villains… the Daleks.

The adventure ties into the Escape Hunt event, A Dalek Awakens, currently running across England, which is, annoyingly, the only part of this whole thing I don’t plan on partaking of.

Here’s the full press release:

Tom Baker is set to join BBC Studios’ multi-platform Doctor Who adventure in an all-new, full-cast audio drama from Big Finish Productions – Genetics of the Daleks.

There are 10,000 humans in stasis aboard Starship Future. Ten thousand humans expecting to wake up on a distant planet, their new home. But twenty years into their journey, Starship Future takes on board fuel – and something else. Something that’s been waiting, frozen in space, for a very long time.

Something malevolent.

Something with a plan.

Unless the Doctor can help, it looks like the people of Starship Future have no future at all…

Genetics of the Daleks has been created in partnership with Escape Hunt, the company behind the escape room, A Dalek Awakens, and can be enjoyed either as a prequel to the experience or as a standalone adventure.

Actor Tom Baker said: “Of all the monsters in all of Doctor Who, I’ve no doubt that the Daleks are the most successful, and this story is really rather good at showing why. You see, even a solitary, seemingly dead Dalek is a deadly enemy.

“But after a while, old enemies can become old friends. I’m very fond of these villains, because without them I couldn’t win, and be the hero. I have two little Daleks by my bedside. They’ve become my closest friends. I look at them and I’m filled with a warm glow.”

Due for release on 10th December 2020, Genetics of the Daleks also stars Pippa Haywood (Bodyguard, Green Wing), Clive Mantle (Alien 3, Game of Thrones), Nina Toussaint-White (Doctor Who, GameFace,) and Andrew James Spooner (Firestorm).

James Goss, Producer of Time Lord Victorious, said: “It’s thrilling to see the Fourth Doctor blunder into Time Lord Victorious, encountering the last survivor of the Dalek Time Squad and taking on its deadly scheme. The script works brilliantly as a standalone story, but also expands the Time Lord Victorious universe and sets up the A Dalek Awakens escape room. It’s full of clues for both.”

The addition of these two additions to the TLV event is exciting because it means there could be more to come and more exciting because, since we now know Christopher Eccleston is joining Big Finish as the Ninth Doctor (here) and he is featured in the comic portion of the tale, perhaps, just perhaps, we could hear him join in to the audio side of things?

Anyway, a nerd can dream, right?

Let me know your thoughts on the who Time Lord Victorious event and which Doctors you’d like to see join in the fun in all the usual ways, gang.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
