It seems that the Clown Prince of Crime is finally getting an origin story. According to comicbookmovie.com Andy Kubert will be delivering a one-shot issue dealing with the Joker’s humble beginnings. The book will be illustrated by Andy Clarke and will take place just before the whole New52 reboot. Here’s the quote:
“During Villains Month, witness an untold tale of The Joker that takes place before any of the #1 issues in DC COMICS-THE NEW 52. Written by Andy Kubert and illustrated by Andy Clarke, this unique one-shot will not only hint at a possible origin for The Joker, but will also feature the origin of a classic Batman villain who folks might not suspect as having ties to the Clown Prince of Crime.”
We all know Alan Moore sort of covered this ground in the Killing Joke, but this could be better as long as it’s definitive. The part about the book hinting at a possible origin holds about zero interest with me. If DC and Kubert are going to take the time to write a special issue one-shot than make that THE origin of the Joker. I’m sure fans will not want to plop down dollars for a book that may or may not deliver. If DC really wants to make this move then make it, full out, balls to the wall, 100%, no ifs ands or buts about it. If they do THAT then I could see this being a really good book, but only if DC commits.
