Ghostbusters and Transformers crossover in new Toy and comic series… oh, boy

February 18th, 2019 by Marc Comments

So… two of my favourite things in the whole world, ever (after my children – honest) are Ghostbusters and Transformers and now both franchises are 35 years old (I’m so old!) and both are finally coming together!

So, it all started when New York Toy Fare revealed Ectotron, a new Autobot Transformer who – you guessed it – transforms into the Ecto-1.

The new figure looks like this:

Man, that packaging alone is worth what will undoubtedly be a pretty high price.

But the awesome didn’t stop there… because pretty soon the folks at IDW who publish the Ghostbusters and Transformers comics got in on the fun.

First Ghostbusters writer Erik Burnham had this to say:

Then we go this breakdown:

When the Transformers pick up on a strange Cybertronian signal emanating from Earth, they travel to the planet only to discover that the threat waiting for them there is something that Venkman, Spengler, Stantz, and Zeddemore are perfectly suited to help them take on. The five-issue series will feature a variety of variant covers illustrated by Dan Schoening, Paulina Ganucheau, Nick Roche, and Alex Milne,  and hits stores this June.

Going by the image above (and tweeted below), we’re guessing it’s the Ghost of Starscream that causes the problems.

We guess this will be something of a standalone adventure for both franchises because, as much as we love them both, we just don’t see them existing in the same universe on any level.

That said, it’s not the first time IDW have brought the two together as The X-Files’ Lone Gunmen did a crossover a while back with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters and Transformers, so it’s not TOTALLY unprecedented.

But we’re still really excited for this in June and we know that no matter what else, with Erik Burnham and Dan Schoening at the helm, this will be a heck of a lot of fun.

35 years…

On top of the TFormers and artist Dan Schoening has posted two mind-blowingly awesome images:

And we’re wondering who – or what – is behind the black panel… thoughts?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
