When it comes to events in comics, many say that they will change things either for the better or worse. Some do (see: Forever Evil, Civil War, etc.), some don’t (put your least favorite event here), but all at least try.

With the upcomign Secret Wars though, Marvel is assuring us that NOTHING will be the same. Truly, and literally. This time you can honestly believe them, as they detail what Secret Wars is truly about, and what it’ll mean to the Marvel Universe.

During a massive press event in New York City, it was revealed that the backbone of Secret Wars is the fact that Marvel Universe and the Ultimate Universe will crash into one another, which will form Battleworld, thus beginning Secret Wars.

“This is putting an endcap to decades of stories and starting a new era. When you see the scope of the event, [you will] see what we’re willing to do. This is a place where we’re going to be bringing new pieces onto the board and taking old pieces off. You guys will be yelling and screaming, loving and hating in equal measure,” Axel Alonso said.

In case any of you think that some slight of hand will occur to reverse or negate this, that will not be the case. Battleworld is for real, and will be real throughout and beyond Secret Wars.

If you recall the teasers from last year about the “different realities” that will be in Battleworld, those will now apparently be their own ongoing series.

This announcement has already shaken up the fanbase, many are wondering if the new “status quo” will reflect more on what is going on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to Marvel, that won’t be the case.

“So there’s no way that these movies, which are seen by millions of people, are not influencing what we’re doing in the books,” Marvel Publisher Dan Buckley said, “but we’re not looking to align continuity between the two storytelling worlds because, frankly, that would be a venture into madness.”

What is truth? What is publicity? What is recall? I don’t know, but everything will change in one way or the other in May when Secret Wars arrives.
