Last December Archie Comics threw their own hat into the rebooted comic universe with an announcement that their comic was going to get a contemporary reboot starting with a new Archie #1 written by Mark Waid and drawn by Fiona Staples set to debut in July.

Further to this announcement, earlier this week Archie Comics announced a Kickstarter to fund three new accompanying titles in what they are dubbing ‘Riverdale Reborn’. These three titles are Jughead by Chip Zdarsky and an unannounced artist, Betty & Veronica by writer/artist Adam Hughes and a Kevin Keller by writer/artist Dan Parent.
The kickstarter launched with a goal of $350,000 with several rewards for contributions. These included signed variant covers, digital copies of the new Archie #1, the chance to win original art and the chance to have yourself drawn in an upcoming issue of Afterlife with Archie as a zombie.

However, yesterday Archie Comics pulled the Kickstarter with a statement to ComicBookResources saying that it was due to controversy surrounding the project with several people lamenting an established comics company using crowdfunding.
So what does this mean for the announced books? Well they will all still be coming out just now with a delay. According to Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater, the first to come will be Jughead and will see publication ‘sooner than you think’ with the other two books set to follow later on.
