Website ComicBookMovie has posted on their website here suggesting that an R-rated version of Batman V Superman is on the way. Now, this might seem like a comic-book fan’s wet dream spurned on from the R-rated release recently of Deadpool but the strange thing is, after a little bit of research we’ve also found signs that it’s true.
Hold your horses a moment though. The movie is released in cinemas in just over a month’s time, but you’ll have a little bit longer wait than that.
Our research finds the movie’s American rating via a search of website FilmRatings.com, a site listing ratings for the Classification and Rating Administration at the MPAA (view a link to the search result here). A screen capture of which can also be found below:

As you can see, the PG-13 rated version has been registered under Warner Bros. Pictures, the studio’s theatrical distributor. The R-rated version has been registered under Warner Home Entertainment, so it’s highly unlikely that the R-rated version will be seen until the movie makes its home video release. The certificate number of each suggests that the PG-13 version was registered first, so if the certificate numbers are awarded in the order that they are submitted, the R-rated version was submitted after the PG-13 version. This is also suggested by a note in ‘Other’ that confirms it is an edited version of the movie.
It is possible that the movie when originally submitted, was given an R-rating and then re-worked to get the desired PG-13 version, but more than likely, the success of the R-rated 20th Century Fox movie Deadpool, based on the Marvel comic character is the reason that we will get this R-rated version which the description would suggest is more violent.
