Bryan Singer reveals technique for shooting Quicksilver

August 7th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

X-Men: Days Of Future Past director  Bryan Singer was on Twitter today with a behind the scenes look at his method for shooting Quicksilver. He tweeted:

Brightest set I’ve ever filmed on. #3600framespersecond #Quicksilver #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast

While not as particularly revealing as prior set images, it does offer a glimpse at the process. Singer is filming Quicksilver’s (Evan Peters) scenes at 3,600 frames per second. 3,600 FPS is 150 times slower than common film (so Quicksilver will appear insanely fast), as such, requires significantly more lighting to expose each frame.

“The film will be based on the comic book storyline “Days of Future Past,” which ran in Uncanny X-Men #141 and 142 back in 1981 during Chris Claremont and John Byrne’s run and introduced the idea of an alternate future for Marvel’s mutants that grew out of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killing an important senator, leading to a future where all mutants are hunted by Sentinels.”

Singer has managed to gather an impressive cast which includes James McAvoy, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Halle Berry, Shawn Ashmore, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Jackman, Peter Dinklage, Patrick Stewart, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Boo Boo Stewart, Adan Canto, Evan Peters, Josh Helman, and Lucas Till.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to be released in theaters on May 23, 2014.
