Clark Gregg has been speaking to Screen Rant about his return as Agent Phil Coulson in ABC’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”.

Asked about the character’s state of mind during the show, the actor said “I don’t know how you could not change going through what he went through”.

He continued: “I think if he hadn’t gone through some kind of change, it wouldn’t be any good. That said, I don’t know if he understands how much he’s changed.”

While the method of Coulson’s return is going to remain a mystery to Avengers fans and, perhaps, Earth’s mightiest heroes, Gregg promises that no one will be disappointed.

“When Joss described to me the mystery,” he said. “And the complexity and the unanswered questions about Phil Coulson standing there trying to deal with this, I found it so fascinating and so true to the world of the comics and mythology in general as I understand them that I was immediately in.”

As for the Avengers themselves, he added: “[S]ome level of deception must have been perpetrated on the Avengers. It must have been. I think.”

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
