Anyone who knows movies will at least have heard of Terry Gilliam’s many attempts to make a movie based on Don Quixote (here) –  and if you haven’t then go watch Lost In La Mancha as soon as possible – but sadly it looks like it will never happen as Disney have stepped in.

Yes, the studio aim to bring the adventures of the Spanish man who believes he is a Knight to the big screen with Billy Ray – The Hunger Games and Captain Phillips – penning the script.

The original tale was written by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra in 1605 and told the story told of a lower-class aristocrat named Alanso Quixano who, after reading too many novels about chivalry, loses his sanity and comes to believe that knights, maidens and dragons really exist.

Word on the street is it will be a Pirates of the Caribbean type adventure movie, so expect franchise talks and plenty of… Johnny Depp? Is it odd that Depp was once Gilliam’s choice for the role?

Hmmmmm….

No word on filming, cast or dates yet but when we know, you’ll know.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
