April 30th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Although the upcoming big screen adaptation of the hit video game franchise Assassin’s Creed has had its star Michael Fassbender for more than a year now, and a writing team in place, it is just now getting a director. Deadline reports that Justin Kurzel who just directed Macbeth also starring Fassbender, is in talks to direct.

The original Assassin’s Creed game primarily revolves around the rivalry between two ancient secret societies: the Assassins and the Knights Templar. The protagonist Desmond Miles a descendant of Assassins, is captured by a secret organization with ties to the Knight Templar. They use a device called the animus to allow him to relive the memories of his ancestors to retrieve valuable historical artifacts, the first time going back to the Crusades.

Bill Collage and Adam Cooper, best known for their work on Ridley Scott’s upcoming biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings, will rewrite Michael Lesslie’s adapted screenplay. Fassbender is also set to co-produce with Frank Marshall

Assassin’s Creed is set for August 7th, 2015.
