Man of Steel Blu-Ray hints at Doomsday?

November 10th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

The above image has been found by Comicbook.com on the Man of Steel Blu-Ray. On the disc is a documentary of sorts about concept art, viral marketing and Krypton.

So it seems that the U.S. government was able to reverse-engineer a translation of the Kryptonian data found in the databanks of the Black Zero, made when it communicated with the Kryptonian scout ship (Fortress of Solitude). So what did they find?

“Beware Bertron’s curse, for he is named Doomsday.”

To most fans of comics Doomsday should need no introduction, as his fight with Superman resulted in the death of the Man of Steel. Well at least for a while.

Bertron is probably lesser known to the average comic fan. He was a Kryptonian scientist who lived hundreds of years ago, and was obsessed with creating the perfect creature. Bertron took a humanoid baby, who he dubbed “Baby”, and repeatedly launched it out into the harsh wilderness of Krypton to fend for itself. The baby died, but Bertron retrieved the baby’s genetic material and brought him back to life. He did this hundreds of times, essentially forcing the clone to rapidly evolve.

Ultimately, the being that was created was virtually indestructible and had evolved the ability to resurrect itself after death, having “evolved” past whatever killed it so that it couldn’t die the same way twice. Bertron had succeeded in making an immortal and powerful being–but that being was barbaric and impossible to control–and it carried with it the genetic memory of generations of abuse, driving it to destroy Bertron and basically anything else that crossed its path.

This was Doomsday.

Eventually subdued and bound, Doomsday was fired off into space. Eventually he crashed on Earth in what would later become Ohio, and the impact buried him deepunderground. Doomsday “hibernated” for decades or centuries before he woke up and tore through the East Coast of the United States, stopped only when Superman sacrificed his life to destroy the beast. Or so he thought.

Anyway does this hint at a Death of Superman storyline? It’s way too early to tell, but it’s safe to say DC is planting some seeds which may or may not come to fruition.

Would you like to see Doomsday in a future Man of Steel or possibly a Justice League movie?
