Christopher McQuarrie has said fans of the Mission: Impossible franchise can expect big changes in the forthcoming sixth film.
The movie, which starts filming in Paris this April, will also deal with the question of ‘who is Ethan Hunt?’.
“I’ve seen five of these movies, and I don’t know who Ethan Hunt is,” McQuarrie told Empire Magazine. “One movie sort of dealt with his personal life; the other movies are about people speculating what’s really going on in Ethan’s head. I want to know who Ethan is in this movie, I want an emotional journey for the character, and Tom [Cruise] really embraced it.”
As for the infamous action piece openings of each movie, even that is likely to change this time round.
“It starts in a very unconventional way,” McQuarrie continued. “It does not start with action. That was the hardest pitch of this movie.”
Mission: Impossible 6 arrives into cinemas on 27 July 2018.
