NEWS ROUND-UP: Iron Man 3, Game of Thrones, G.I.Joe 3, Fast & Furious 7, The Conjuring (with new trailer)

April 4th, 2013 by Marc Comments

Here’s our semi-regular look at all the news we love but couldn’t fit into standalone posts. Sit back relax and get caught up with FTN…

G.I Joe 3

First off, it looks like the massive nine-month delay for the release of GI Joe Retaliation did the movie no harm at all. In fact the opposite seems to be true with it taking $51.7m domestic, $80.3m foreign in it’s opening Easter weekend. The performance is so good that it has already had a third instalment greenlit despite reviews still being pretty harsh.

Oh and we’re hearing mumbles of a Transformers/GI Joe crossover. Well, it happened in the comics plenty…

The Conjuring

James Wan, the man responsible for Saw and Insidious, has been on the receiving end of reports that his new movie, The Conjuring, is just too good.

Huh?

Well, it seems that Warners are over the moon with the movie and test screenings are getting very positive results and the movie has been given a July 13th release date based on this.

However, the MPAA have, according to reports, given the movie an R-Rating, not because of it being scary or gorybut because it is extremely creepy. Creepy?!

Darkhorizons are reporting that ‘Producer Walter Hamada says “When we sent it [to MPAA], they gave us the R-rating. When we asked them why, they basically said, ‘It’s just so scary. [There are] no specific scenes or tone you could take out to get it PG-13.'”

Sounds great, could this and The Evil Dead mark a long overdue return to old school, clever and scary horror? We can but hope… check out the trailer below

Fast & Furious 7

Vin Diesel does love Facebook, doesn’t he? His latest post has been talking about Fast and Furious 7: “There was an early screening in LA this week of Fast Six. The crowd reaction was surreal… and their demand for the continuation was powerful… It’s remarkable to think I first embodied this character in 1999… and the evolution continues.

“P.S. Filming begins this summer in LA, where it all started… talk about a studio in sync with

the audience.”

So fast 7 is already moving ahead… more as and when we get it.

Iron Man 3

While we are all really excited for Iron Man 3, Darkhorizons are reporting that: “Marvel has announced that a different version of the third “Iron Man” will be screened in Chinese theaters at a yet undetermined date.

“The Chinese version of the film will include a special appearance by China’s top actress, Fan Bingbing, and will offer specially prepared bonus footage made exclusively for the Chinese audience.”

On top of this, Marvel’s Kevin Feige can’t stop talking about Iron Man 3 (who can blame him?) and he’s been talking why War Machine now looks like the Iron Patriot from the comics but, em, isn’t…

“A few years ago they created a suit called the Iron Patriot, which was an advanced Iron Man suit painted red, white and blue with a star on it.

“In the comics it’s a different character that wears it and utilizes it. But we really loved that image. And coming off of ‘The Avengers’ where you have Captain America, we thought it would be fun if the United States wanted to have their own version of that.

“Of course, Captain America works for the United States, but he’s more of an Avengers hero, which is why [the government] takes War Machine and rebrands him as the Iron Patriot.”

Game of Thrones

We kinda knew this, but it’s official now. Game Of Thrones has been renewed for a fourth season. Shock.

The fourth season will focus on the second half of the George RR Martin book A Storm Of Swords. It also looks like pre-production has been underway for some time already on the new season due to the complex nature of filming… maybe this is what Charles Dance was talking about a few weeks ago when he said it was already happening?

Any way… season four IS coming…
