Pacific Rim was one of the biggest movies of the summer. It’s also quite unique in that it’s a completely original genre movie, not a sequel or a remake/reboot. Now while it did not do well in the U.S., it has been doing well internationally. Its current box office totals are $178.5 million, for a film that Deadline estimates to cost somewhere between $180 and $220 million to make. The movie has yet to open in Brazil, China, Japan, and Spain. So cancel the apocalypse there is still hope for a sequel.
Del Toro recently sat down with MTV to discuss the film and the possible sequel:
“I’ll tell you a couple of things. We will have Gipsy 2.0 for sure. Second thing is you’re gonna see a merging of Kaiju and Jaeger. And that is quite special.”
A Jaeger/Kaiju hybrid? How is that even…..do I even want to know?
