Following in the footsteps of Dumbo and The Lion King, Pinocchio is looking like it will be the next of the Disney animated movies to move into the live-action movement.
Robert Zemeckis is a Hollywood god having written the original Back to the Future, directed Forrest Gump and produced Beowolf, and now he’s been named as director for Pinocchio.
Although we don’t know at this point in time how the little wooden puppet will be done, it would be safe to say that it would be more than likely filmed using performance capture techniques using real people and animating on top of them. This is a technique that he’s famous for after using it on hit movies like Beowolf and The Polar Express.
Andrew Miano (Being Flynn producer) and Chris Weitz (Rouge One writer) have both been secured to produce the movie with Weitz, Paul King (Paddington director) and Simon Farnaby (Paddington and Rogue One actor) set to pen the script.
The original movie was done way back in 1940 and was based on the book The Adventures of Pinocchio that was written in 1883, so it should be interesting to see just what will happen with the remake happening 80+ years later by the time it will be released. Stay tuned for more details and stay nerdy folks.
