RUMOR: Does JARVIS become Ultron?

August 28th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Ever since Avengers: Age of Ultron was announced at SDCC, fans have been speculating about the origins of Ultron. Joss Whedon has already admitted to a divergence from the original Ultron origin story as he will not be created by Hank Pym (Ant-Man). Whedon also went on further describing how Ultron will differ from the comics.

Thanks to Unleash the Fanboy we’ve got a cool rumor about the origins of Ultron in the Avengers sequel. You’ll remember these animated storyboards from The Avengers leaked onto the internet, showcasing the origins of a few popular scenes, and displaying a few alternatives. This was among them:

Could that be a tease of sorts?

Many fans have admittedly thought this already, myself among them. I’ve tossed around many ideas in my head. Is JARVIS corrupted by A.I.M? Does Scarlet Witch’s hex powers play a role? Is it Stark just pushing boundries? After Iron Man 3 would Ultron be the next step?

Well UTF have friends in high places apparently, and asked a Disney source of theirs if JARVIS, or a form of the AI software, would become Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron:

“That’s the plan so far from what I’ve heard. Obvious isn’t it?”

So since Paul Bettany has portrayed JARVIS in every Marvel Studios film since Iron Man, the obvious question is whether the actor would return for a proper physical role, instead of just the voiceover:

“He’s returning, but I’m not sure if they’re doing motion capture with him, or if they’ll use someone else. Since he’s only done voiceovers, the contract is new.”

Their source wasn’t comfortable sharing any more information. How do you feel about Paul Bettany possibly playing Ultron?

Could you see him as some sort of human manifestation of Ultron, or perhaps the Vision? Maybe he’ll play both, Ultron in mocap and Vision in the flesh.

Let us know what you think of the rumor.
