Variety is reporting that Joaquin Phoenix could very soon be headed to DC Comics’ big screen universe. It seems that Warner Bros. is very keen on casting the star for Zack Snyder’s upcoming Batman Vs. Superman, likely in the role of the sequel’s main villain, which has long been rumored to be Lex Luthor.
Even though names like Jason Momoa and Callan Mulvey have been linked to the film, sources are saying that they wouldn’t play the main villain, and that Warners has always wanted someone who would be a slam dunk in the role.
Batman Vs Superman (or whatever) is being scripted by David S. Goyer from a story he co-created with Zack Snyder. Snyder is directing. Man of Steel‘s Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman in the film, Ben Affleck is Bruce Wayne/Batman and Gal Gadot is Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will also reprise their roles in the sequel.
It is scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, 2015.
