SDCC 2013: CONFIRMED Warner Bros. to bring Batman/Superman movie in 2015!

July 20th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher 4 Comments

Despite persistent rumors of Justice League and even a Batman reboot being scheduled for 2015, it appears that Warner Bros. is going another way. According to Hero Complex:

“Warner Bros. is about to bring together two of its most iconic heroes: Superman and Batman will unite in a new film, the follow-up to “Man of Steel,” set for release in 2015.”

According to two of their sources with knowledge of the movie, Warner Bros. intends to announce the news at its SDCC panel today.

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder is expected to reunite with screenwriter David S. Goyer and star Henry Cavill for the new film. Man of Steel producer and Dark Knight trilogy director Christopher Nolan is expected to be involved, but exactly how much is unclear.

So Cavill will reprise his role as Superman, but who’s Batman is unknown. It’s highly unlikely Christian Bale will step back into the cape and cowl, as the actor has already publicly stated that he’s moved on from his days as Bruce Wayne.

Let the speculation begin!

IT”S OFFICIAL!!!!

Zack Snyder took the stage at the end of the DC panel:

“It’s official that we are going to make another Superman movie. And you say, Zack, what is the movie about? But you don’t want me to tell you that. You want to go and see the movie. But I can say that maybe there’s a single element that will be in the film that I could… help you out with. I was thinking about how to do that. I pored through the DC Universe to look for a way to tell this thing. We’re writing the thing now, but I came across a thing I found that’ll help you understand it.”

Then Harry Lennix read this line, from Frank Miller’s classic, The Dark Knight Returns:

“I want you to remember, Clark, in all the years to come, in all your most private moments, I want you to remember my hand on your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you.”

That’s Batman speaking to Superman like a boss!

Snyder explained:

“We’re not adapting this thing, but it is the thing that will help us tell that story.” So while the logo he showed on screen, pictured above, uses the bat logo design from Miller’s work, this will not be a be a direct adaptation of Miller’s work.

The title was not announced, and no actors were mentioned, but Snyder did say that this is effectively the sequel to Man of Steel. The press release below confirms Henry Cavill as Superman as well as Laurence Fishburne, Amy Adams, and Diane Lane returning.

No mention of any actor for Batman.
