Signal Boost! E3 Special: Videogames

June 20th, 2015 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

KSE3 saw the launch of the Kickstarter for Shenmue 3, a game I and others have been pleading to have made for well over a decade. However that was not the only video game Kickstarter to be launched during the week, so I thought I’d round those up too.

The Kickstarter for Shenmue is at the bottom of the list if you’re just here for that.

.

Legends of Fire & Steel

From a designer of the original Far Cry comes an innovative turn-based single and multiplayer fantasy world conquest game for PC, Mac, and mobile tablets. Looks like a neat casual game to play.
.

.

Echo Tokyo

Development of Echo Tokyo has already begun thanks to a previously successful kickstarter campaign earlier in the year. However over time they have added more and more to the game. This campaign is designed to add additional funds to expand the game beyond the original plans and develop the graphic novel.

Dark Stars – a tragic anti-shmup for PC and smartphones

Dark stars is a vertical scrolling shoot ’em up style games, except you defeat enemy ships by stealing the souls of their crew as opposed to simply blowing them up, influenced by the Dark Souls  games among others.

.

Luckless Seven – A Narrative-Driven Card Game RPG

Luckless Seven is a coming of age story with a focus on developing a personality for Mark, the main character, and seeing the impact of your decisions on your friends and family. It also boasts a card based battle system based on Pazaak.

Beyond Black Space: Valkyrie – Space Shooter Video Game

.
Space Shooter for Mobile: Android, iTunes, PC: Windows, Linux, Mac and Console: PSN, Xbox live and Wii U Game. It’s pretty neat looking and the video is funny.
.

.

R.O.T: Age of Arius

Yes it’s your token JRPG bit. Turn based combat, 16 bit graphics, it’s all there! Remnants of Twilight: Age of Arius is a 2D Story-driven JRPG. While it  focuses on the story elements that drive most JRPGs, it also heavily prides itself on the ability to customize how each character functions in battle, how they look in and out of battle, and how far they will go throughout the game to accomplish the goals they have set forward for themselves

So there you have the best of the rest so finally the one many of us have been waiting 14 years for:

Shenmue 3

I was on a podcast a few days ago (You can find it here, it is 3 hours long, fair warning)  and one of the other guests made the point that the two million funding target, which they sailed past, was very low to produce the quality of game we expect. The working theory is this is a proof of concept effort for Sony who have a console exclusive for it.
