The Russo bros tease Captain America 3 plans

August 5th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Captain America: The Winter Soldier, praised by critics and fans alike, went on to gross over $713 million at the global box office. So it came at no big surprise when Marvel made it known Anthony and Joe Russo would be helming the third installment of the franchise as well.

Speaking with Yahoo! Movies, the Russo bros teased some of their plans for the upcoming third film, which will focus at least in part on Steve’s search for childhood friend Bucky Barnes, aka Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).

Cap 3 will take place “a couple years” after Winter Soldier left off. Anthony Russo reveals that the themes of politics and power will once again be present:

“The character was invented for an explicitly political purpose. So it’s hard to get away from that nature.”

It’s important to them that that Captain America doesn’t become another disillusioned antihero. The way Joe Russo sees it:

“his morality is part of his superpower.”

The pair didn’t reveal any major details from third Cap film, but promise that they will:

“bringing some new elements to the table that will give us a twist on Winter Soldier.”

Captain America 3 is scheduled for release on May 6th, 2016.
