WATCH: Full 30 Mins Return of the Jedi Edit Droid Laserdisc

November 8th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

We’ve all seen clips from the Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi long lost Edit Droid Laserdisc, but now the full 30 minutes have been restored!

The raw footage featuring Luke Skywalker saying farewell to a dying Yoda on Dagobah. It shows that Obi-Wan was in favor of telling Luke about his father, rather than hide the truth about Darth Vader as Yoda wanted.

The footage comes from a rare LaserDisc Facebook user “rotjeditdroid” bought on eBay $699, they didn’t take republic credits either.

The disc was once used to demonstrate Lucasfilm’s EditDroid station. The editing system, which was an early attempt to transition from analog to digital editing, debuted in 1984 at the National Association of Broadcaster 62nd Annual meeting in Las Vegas.

Needless to say EditDroid never became a commercial success. The software for the computerized analog non-linear editing system was eventually sold to Avid Technologies.
