WATCH: Teaser trailer for a Ratchet and Clank movie!

April 23rd, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

The Ratchet and Clank video game franchise is going to get the big screen treatment. The Hollywood Reporter says that Rainmaker Entertainment has teamed up with Blockade Entertainment to develop a 3D animated movie adventure.

The characters were introduced to the world in 2002, and they’ve become extremely  popular over the years. I love the games, but for those who don’t know:

“They focus on two unlikely heroes as they struggle to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. Ratchet is the last of his kind, a foolhardy ‘lombax’ who has grown up alone on a backwater planet with no family of his own, while Clank is a pint-sized robot with more brains than brawn.”

The movie will be directed by Jericca Cleland with a script written by TJ Fixman, who is also a senior writer for Insomniac Games. The goal is to maintain the game’s signature dialogue, humor, and tone, which are staples of the franchise. They are also going to be using the original voice actors from the games for the movie.Well it seems like they are taking all the proper steps to make fans of the game happy.

But Blockade CEO Brad Foxhoven also wants to grow their audience:

“Ratchet and Clank is a world-renowned video game franchise that appeals to a broad audience. By working closely with SCEA and Insomniac, we will remain true to the game’s expansive mythology while also creating a story that will capture the imagination of those who will be new to this incredible world. It’s meant for a mass audience and not just those who know the franchise. Almost like an origin story of sorts, revolving around how (the characters) came together.”

Rainmaker president Michael Hefferon added his thoughts:

“You don’t want to alienate the core people that made this franchise so successful, but at the end of the day, the game itself is irrelevant. It’s all about what you’re seeing on that screen. It’s about going to see a fantastic animated movie.”

I think you can tell from the trailer below, this will be an incredibly fun film in 2015. Watch it and share your thoughts with us. I think there should be more animated films like this for video game properties.
