Westworld executive producer Roberto Patino has revealed some new details about the forthcoming second season.
Speaking at the PaleyFest event this past weekend, he said the story will mess with your mind by involving the metaphysical.
“There will be a story, and it will f**k with the metaphysical at some point,” he said.
At the end of Season 1, it was suggested that Westworld was just one of the places that guests could visit, with another being Samurai World. Asked if there are other worlds in the show’s universe, showrunner Jonathan Nolan confirmed with a laugh: “That would be cool, wouldn’t it?”
Also during the PaleyFest panel, Nolan confirmed that the character Maeve (Thandie Newton) was acting on her own free will when she decided to abandon her escape plans to instead stay in Westworld to find her daughter.
“If you look at her performance in that moment, that is really the first decision she’s ever made. For me, it’s a very emotional moment in the episode because you see her freewill,” Nolan said.
Nolan said filming on Season 2 will not begin until the scripts for all the episodes are done. It is unlikely to premiere until 2018.
