DC character Shazam! will definitely be a part of the DC cinematic universe but the man with a finger in most of those movie pies, Zack Snyder, won’t be involved.

Producer Dany Garcia told Newsweek that Shazam! is set in the DC world, but that entirely different team will be working on it behind the scenes.

Snyder, ofcourse, has directed Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, is currently helming Justice League, and is producing Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash. This move is likely to please many a DC fan who have been critical of his approach to bringing these films to the big screen.

“Shazam! is to live in the same world [as the other films] but we have incredible autonomy over this brand and franchise,” Garcia said. “We are working with a different team, different producers, directors… it’s a different set-up,” Garcia told Newsweek. “We don’t feel fettered by, or constrained by, the successes or failures and challenges of the other projects. That was a key component to our participation—that we be able to control the tone and the voice, and do it the way we want to. It needs to be of the world.’

“You’ve got Justice League, Wonder Woman with a different director, so you’re going to see different points of view. I think by the time we land with [Shazam!] we’ll fit nicely within the world that’s been created, but not such a shorthand relationship. [It’ll be] enough that people say, ‘Oh, this is within the family,’ but the culture will be a little different.”

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who will star as Shazam’s arch-enemy, Black Adam, is also co-producing the film. However, no other casting news has been confirmed.

Shazam! is scheduled for an April 5, 2019 theatrical release.
