Ah man, is The Matrix set for a reboot at Warners?!

March 16th, 2017 by Marc Comments

Last week we learned that Disney may be looking to reboot TRON despite having an established universe sitting there (here) and now it seems another rich sci-fi cinematic universe could be set for a restart…

The day’s big news is that The Matrix trilogy is set for what may be a full reboot.

The original trilogy starred Keanu Reeves as Neo, a computer hacker who found himself in the role of the possible saviour of mankind and it changed cinema forever with a unique science fiction vision unlike anything seen before and with a story and themes that are still discussed by fans and philosophers to this day.

Anyway, the word is that Warners want to start the franchise again and word is that they want Michael B Jordan as the lead however it’s still pretty far off to be looking at lead actors.

But, most annoying to us here at FTN is that “At this point, the Wachowski siblings, who wrote and directed the original and its two sequels, are not involved and the nature of their potential engagement with a new version has not been determined. Certainly, Warners would want the two filmmakers to give at minimum a blessing to the nascent project.”

Last we heard (here) was that producer Joel Silver wanted to make a fourth movie but has since sold the rights and will not be involved.

That is all we know for now but we’ve waited a long time for a new Matrix movie so here’s hoping Warners do the right thing and at least set the story in the established universe and don’t decide to discard originality and retread familiar paths.

Thoughts? We want to hear them…
