An animated MCU movie is ‘being discussed’

It looks like the MCU might be getting ready to branch out in a whole new way.

While primarily live-action with movies and TV shows, the MCU does have a few animated shows that link to it with the just finished What If…?, I Am Groot and the both coming soon Marvel Zombies and Eyes of Wakanda series all being official canon but so far, there’s been no big screen animated MCU adventures.

But that might all change soon.

Marvel announces Black Panther: Eyes of Wakanda animated show, coming this year

In a new interview (below), Marvel Studios’ head of streaming, television and animation, Brad Winderbaum has revealed that they do discuss an animated movie regularly, adding: “I think it’s just about having a property that is a film.”

He goes on: “A film, to me, is two hours. It’s like a statement. You’re buying a ticket, you’re sitting in the theater, you’re with a crowd. It’s a giant screen that is dominating you. It’s something to say to the world. You’ve got two hours to do it versus a television show, which is a longer form. It’s more of a conversation with an audience.”

On making an animated movie, he says before they move forward, they have to ask and answer: “Is it something that is definitely this world, this character, this moment? Is it a story that’s going to be best told in two hours like that?”

I think an animated movie set in the MCU would be a great idea and could be a lot of fun, especially in the more out-there cosmic side of things but I also think that it wouldn’t have the wide audience appeal that a live-action movie would.

On a personal level, most of my friends have watched the Marvel live-action shows but very few have watched What If…? and these are guys who consider themselves big fans, so that would certainly be an issue on the big screen too.

But… given that it’s Marvel, I almost feel like an animated movie isn’t just likely but deserved, it would feel full circle, given the comic book origins.

Anyways, would you watch an animated MCU movie? Let me know…
