Well, it’s always nice to get a surprise on a Friday night and this was certainly that.
Out of nowhere director of The Flash movie, Andy Muschietti, has revealed that he has found and cast the movie’s Supergirl… and we didn’t even realise he was looking for one, although there’s been plenty of reports of a Supergirl movie being in development (here) with word being it was to replace Henry Cavill’s Superman in the DCEU although we don’t think that’s still the plan.
Anyway, where were we?
Oh yes, Muschietti has shared a very touching video (below) of him making the call to The Young and the Restless actress Sasha Calle in which he reveals that he has got the job of Kara Zor-EL AKA Supergirl and, honestly, her join is palpable.
Interesting that during the chat, Muschietti shows her the costume which seems to be Cavill’s Superman suit, below. possibly just for effect, but has us wondering if her suit will resemble his. Also notable is John Williams’ iconic Superman music playing.
Deadline reports that over 400 actresses auditioned for the role but none knew what the role was until ‘late in the process’ and several of them had to do tests with Flash himself, Ezra Miller to see what sort of chemistry they had together.
Does this mean Sueprgirl plays a big part in the movie? Hard to tell but I’d imagine this movie will introduce the world to Supergirl on the big screen for the first time since 1984, setting her up for a solo movie down the line.
“I saw more than 400 auditions [from] the US, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia,” said Muschietti, “the talent pool was truly amazing and it was very hard to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role.”
The Flash is currently set to begin production with Ezra Miller in the star role and joining him and now Calle, will be both Ben Affleck and Micheal Keaton as Batman/Bruce Wayne… what a time to be alive!
The Flash is set for release on November 4th, 2022.
