Supergirl movie set to begin production early next year?

While there’s not much to go on here, there’s a new report that DC/Warners are looking to put a Supergirl movie into production as soon as next year.

While we knew a while ago a Supergirl movie was in the works – let’s hope it’s better than its current TV incarnation – I didn’t expect it to begin so soon.

With the whole ‘will he be back or won’t he?’ around Henry Cavill as Superman, it looks like Warners are happy to let Man of Steel 2 sit on the back burner for another while (look, like it or not, Batman V Superman and Justice League were both sequel to Man of Steel albeit under different names, ok) other characters take to the fore.

The report read simply: “Supergirl is tentatively expected to start production in the first quarter of 2020, and I suspect we’ll hear casting information start to circulate in a few months.”

While I will stand by Henry Cavill’s casting as Superman until my dying breath, I’m certainly ok with DC/Warners exploring the world of other characters, after all, I loved Shazam! and both Wonder Woman and Aquaman proved that it doesn’t need to be Batman or Superman to give the fans what they really want.

Does this mean The CW Supergirl show is in trouble? Hard to say – we know that DC don’t like their characters existing in two places at once but The Flash TV series continued after he made it to the Justice League, so I won’t call last orders. Yet.

Let me know what you think about a new Supergirl movie in all the usual ways, gang.
