Another fun piece of the ‘is Matthew Lillard’s Stu Macher still alive in Scream?’ puzzle pops up…

If there’s one thing we love to chat about here on FTN, well, there’s loads, but one of them is definitely Scream and, when it comes to this horror franchise, there’s one thing we love to chat about more than any other… Stu Macher.

Stu, played in the first Scream movie by Matthew Lillard in the first movie, was one of the two killers and remains the biggest fan-favourite character in the whole franchise and, despite his apparent onscreen death, there is a lot of evidence that he is still alive in the series and could be a future threat in the story which will see its sixth installment begin filming this summer (here).

We did a really fun breakdown of why Stu is still alive in the Scream-verse (here) and while, at the time, we thought he might be the villain in the fifth movie, the evidence still points to his survival, from his cameo in Scream 2, to the original plan to have him as the villain in Scream 3, plotting his revenge from prison.

Heck, Matthew Lillard is even in Scream (2022) and there is a clever hint that he may be still alive hidden in the movie too (here).

However, a new cool piece of Stu trivia has appeared online as our friends at Behind the Mask have found an image of Stu after his death from the first movie.

The image shows an in-universe crime-scene photo of Lillard’s Stu lying on the ground with a big TV where his head should be after it was dropped on him in the movie’s climax (more after pic):

The image was apparently cut from the latest Scream movie in which we were supposed to see crime scene pictures of previous Ghostface killers that had been killed by Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell in all the installments.

Why the images would have appeared, we don’t know… is there possibly another plot that was ultimately cut from the movie? Would it have conclusively proved Stu was alive or, perhaps, dead?

We don’t know… all we do know is that, once again, we have more parts of the Stu Macher legacy and mystery… and that’s just fine by us.

What say you all? Is Stu dead? Will he be back? We want all your thoughts, gang…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
