Are Warners and AT&T looking Ben Affleck to return as Batman?!

What the hell!? Seriously, this is a chaotic whirlwind of news and speculation for DC and Zack Snyder fans right now.

In the last few days we’ve found out that Zack Snyder’s Justice League (formerly known as The Snyder Cut) is coming (here). Then we learned that it really looks like Henry Cavill will be coming back as Superman (here). Then we learned that we may be getting the Ayer cut of Suicide Squad (here) and now AT&T may be hinting – may be –  that they want Ben Affleck back as Batman/Bruce Wayne (I mean, who doesn’t?).

Say what?

Well, a new rumour suggests that both AT&T and Warners want Ben Affleck back and the rumour says it’s to film his original script for The Batman which would see Batman go up against Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke.

Now, let me be clear, I’m not one to jump on rumours like this but when I  heard about it, I thought of Manganiello’s tweet the night the Snyder Cut was officially announced:

Now, while we don’t know what the end scene was exactly, we DO know that Affleck, while filming Justice League released this footage of Deathstroke:

And, of course, Manganiello DID appear at the end of the theatrical release of Justice League (below) but now the star seems to be hinting at something else and, let’s be honest, it wouldn’t make any sense to include the original after credits scene if we would never get what it was alluding to.

Then there is this series of Tweets by AT&T that seems to be teasing Affleck’s Batman’s return, saying ‘we’re full of surprises’ and ‘who knows what the future holds? Who knows who will answer the call?:

I know it may be innocuous tweeting, but in light of the last few days’ news, I honestly can’t say it seems impossible that Affleck – who has been in fantastic shape over the last while (seriously, Google it) –  might be lured back.

And, while the rumour does hint at him coming back to do a Batman story, I honestly feel that the best thing to do might be to wrap up the Justice League story if the Snyder Cut does as well as hoped on HBO Max by filming a second Justice League movie.

And for that HBO Max would need everyone back… but let’s not get ahead of ourselves BUT this does tie into a story (here) we published before the official Snyder Cut announcement that stated: “If the movie  [Snyder Cut] is released on HBO Max and is warmly welcomed and the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984 is successful –  as it’s still the Snyder universe – then we may, wait for it, wait, waaaaaait… actually see Snyder return to the DC movies.”

This is all big news and full of rumours but there’s no arguing that something big is going on behind the scenes at HBO Max and whatever happens, great things are coming… it’s just a question of how many great things that is.

Oh, I’m also hearing Jared Leto’s Joker will be back soon too… but that’s probably a whole other story.

But having Cavill and Affleck back for Snyder’s vision of the DCEU? Man, that sounds pretty damned big to me…

Thoughts?
