Bane and Deathstroke team-up movie in development

With a Joker movie currently in cinemas – for better or worse –  and a Penguin HBO series freshly unveiled, a few other DC villains are being targeted for the spotlight.

It seems that James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU is setting its sights on a Bane and Deathstroke movie that would see the villains, Bane, a steroid-enhanced powerhouse who once broke Batman and almost ruled Gotham and Deathstroke, an assassin whose skill set matches that of the Batman himself, making him basically Batman’s dark flipside, teaming up with Captain America: Brave New World writer Matthew Orton developing the script with Gunn.

Bane has been portrayed on the big screen twice – although we don’t talk about the abomination that he was in Batman & Robin – with Tom Hardy’s portrayal in The Dark Knight Rises being the most recent. Deathstroke was portrayed briefly in the previous DC universe by Joe Manganiello and he was set to be the main villain in Ben Affleck’s solo Batman movie which alas, never happened and he was also touted for a solo movie from The Raid’s Gareth Edwards which also never happened, sadly.

Having these characters – who will have no relation to the previous incarnations – together in one movie was not on anyone’s list of movies that would likely happen, but here we are.

Sam Raimi would love to make a Batman movie featuring Ra’s Al Ghul

What the story would be or how these two would interact is yet to be revealed but we know from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker that James Gunn loves to take the bad guys and set them out alone to see what might happen and it’s usually pretty entertaining.

Will this ever see the the light of day? It’s hard to know, but we’ll certainly be keeping an eye on any developments and sharing them with you all.
