Batman was to be sacrificed in Snyder’s Justice League trilogy

December 16th, 2019 by Geralt of Australia Comments

With all the news about the failure that was the Justice League and the whole world wanting the release of the Snyder cut you must be getting pretty sick of hearing about it by this point, but what if I was to tell you that Snyder originally had plans for a trilogy of movies, and in these we were to see the caped crusader die.

Zack Snyder took to Vemo to answer some questions put to him by the fans, one of which was about if he did indeed plan to sacrifice the Dark Knight. “We always had that plan we would see that in final chapter.”

Now, we have to assume that he would die at Darkseids hand, I mean who else could it possibly be that could take him down? Batman has a contingency plan for basically everything, give him enough time and there’s no one he can’t beat.

Here was the planned Justice League trilogy layout:

  • Snyder’s Justice League would play like the theatrical version, with one ending twist: Darkseid revealing himself to the League, as Steppenwolf’s master.
  • Justice League 2 would’ve gone cosmic, with the League mounting an attack on Apokolips and Darkseid. That major event would’ve brought the New Gods of New Genesis and the Green Lantern Corps into the mix.
  • The second movie would’ve ended on a dark and ominous loss, as Darkseid thrashed the Justice League and killed Lois Lane, taking Superman prisoner and creating the “Dark Superman” we saw in Batman v Superman through the Anti-Life Equation
  • Justice League 3 would’ve seen Darkseid invade Earth without the League there to defend it, conquering the planet and creating the “Knightmare” reality in Batman v Superman.
Through several time travel loops (including Flash’s failed warning to Bruce in Batman v Superman) Batman would have to reach Superman and bring him back ot the side of good, so that the League could defeat Darkseid and save the world.

Now, tell me that doesn’t sound fecking awesome!

Personally, I’m a little annoyed we won’t be seeing the second Snyder movie in the trilogy (because we’re betting we will eventually see the first) as I would have been very much looking forward to seeing my favourite hero Green Lantern and the Lantern Corps as the League were to go cosmic to take on Apokolips. From this in the third and final one we would have seen Darkseid come to Earth while the League was away and turn Earth into the Knightmare sequence that we saw in Batman Vs Superman.

Now there is still a chance we could see the Lantern Corps in future movies, but so far it’s looking rather unlikely, that being said if they do bring a Hal Jordan in the DCEU, personally I’d love for Ryan Reynolds to reprise the role again, however maybe don’t make the suit animated this time.

What would you like to have seen from the Snyder trilogy? Would the Lantern Corps and possibly the New Gods have been able to make a difference? Let us know your thoughts. Til then stay nerdy folks.
