We finally have our first official look, title, release date and possible synopsis for the Beetlejuice sequel!
The poster above reveals that the ghost with the most will be back on September 6th this year and the title is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice…
A rumoured plot synopsis has appeared online, reading: “After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return to the small Vermont town of Winter River. Paranormal empath, Lydia Deetz, begins to see the lecherous demon Beetlejuice, who haunted her as a teenager. His plans to finally marry Lydia are given extra urgency when his dead wife comes to life and begins to stalk the Afterlife hunting for him. Meanwhile, Lydia’s teenage daughter embarks on a romance with a local teen.”
Keaton talks returning as Beetlejuice and making it old school
The poster would seem to confirm a rumour I’ve heard a while back that the Shrinker will be back in this movie – the chap who shrunk Beetlejuice’s head at the end of the first movie – my guess is that Beetlejuice has been in the waiting room for over 30 years and that will explain why everyone has aged.
Star Jenna Ortega has described the sequel as: “Visually, so exciting. Everything was practical. I think we’re not using very much CGI or anything like that at all. It was very satisfying shooting on set.”
This was backed up by Burton who confirmed that the effects will be practical where possible: “I tried to strip everything and go back to the basics of working with good people and actors and puppets. It was kind of like going back to why I liked making movies.”

As for Keaton’s Beetlejuice, it seems he’ll be wearing a couple of familiar suits from the first movie, with costume designer Colleen Atwood saying: “Well Beetlejuice has to have a striped suit. It’s like Alice in Wonderland needs a blue dress. How long they wear it is another thing. But Beetlejuice? That is the quintessential Beetlejuice.
Strangely, it was Michael, he thinks the burgundy tux is the quintessential Beetlejuice, not the striped suit,” she added with a laugh. “But the world happens to disagree with him, so it’s a funny thing.”

Whatever he wears, it’s just exciting to have Keaton, Burton and the old – and new – faces back. I can’t wait for this movie! And with all this dropping now, I’d put money on a trailer coming very soon.
Directed by Tim Burton, the film stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Jenna Ortega, Monica Belluci and Willem Dafoe.
Beetlejuice will be haunting cinemas from September 6th, 2024.
The movie finished filming on November 30th, 2023 with Burton taking to social media, posting the image below and writing: “Just finished shooting Beetlejuice 2. Thank you to everyone involved.”
