Cameron and Rodriquez take an oath to make Alita: Battle Angel sequel

December 29th, 2022 by Marc Comments

Back in August last year we reported that Alita: Battle Angel director Robert Rodriquez was confident that, after his work was done on The Book of Boba Fett, he would be looking at getting a sequel underway the fan-favourite sci-fi adventure (here).

At the time, he said: “I’m trying to see what happens with Boba Fett, I think that’s going to knock people’s socks off so when that happens I will go in and say, ok, I’ve been here for a while, let’s figure out how we can do Alita whether it’s for streaming or theatrical because it’s such a great property, people love it, I love it and Jim [Cameron] loves it,” he said.

We [Rodriquez and Cameron] just talked about it recently again, about how can we do this, what’s the best way to approach it, I think it’ll be me going in there with him to talk about it because I’m doing a lot of stuff for them [Disney] now… It’s already a pre-sold concept, it’s already got a built-in audience that wants to see it, and then it’s delivered to them in a way that’s the easiest for them to consume. So, it’s not a bad idea.”

And now, we’re likely closer than ever.

The 2019 movie, starring Rosa Salazar as the titular Battle Angel Alita, was a big hit with fans, proving a much more entertaining, touching and relatable adventure that many bet on it being, it also meant that we fans have been hoping for a sequel ever since.

Now, producer of the first movie Robert Landau said they’re hoping to “circle back” to Alita and are talking to Rodriquez about getting that underway, saying he’s hoping it’ll “come to fruition” but not wanting to pin down a date when it might be – you can watch that here.

But even better, in a recent Actors on Actors episodes, producer James Cameron – he’d be fighting for years to get an Alita movie made – and director Rodriquez took a virtual blood oath and swore to “make another Alita film”.

Watch that below and let us know if you’re as excited as we are to see Alita back and, if you haven’t seen the first movie, the fact that you’re on this site means you’ll very likely have a blast with it. Trust me, I wouldn’t lie to you.

More news as we get it, gang…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
