It looks like the wheels are starting to turn on the GI Joe/Tranformers crossover movie at at last.
While we’ve known for several years that a crossover was planned, after two (ish) Transformers series and two GI Joe series, the ball finally started to roll at the end of last year’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts when it was revealed to Noah Diaz, played by Anthony Ramos, that a secret organisation called GI Joe was observing the Transformers and he was initiated into the team.
Now it seems the wheels are really starting to move as the Transformers/GI Joe crossover gets ready to… roll out.
WATCH: Trailer arrives for CGI animated movie Transformers: One
First up is word that Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth will lead the movie although, as of now, what that capacity is, is unknown; the star will lead another Transformers movie later this year when he voices Optimus Prime in the animated movie Transformers: One (link above), though I doubt he’s playing Prime in this movie – be funny though.
The star, who recently admitted that he felt responsible for the failure of Thor: Love & Thunder, has, outside of the MCU and Extraction on Netflix, has had a patchy (at best) record recently, with his Men In Black outing and, more recently still, Furiosa failing to light up the box office, but hopefully the Transformers name can carry itself.
On top of this, it seems that Michael Bay, director of the first five live-action Transformers movies will be involved in the crossover obly this time, as a producer.
Bay previously avoided a GI Joe/Transformers crossover, saying he felt that bringing the Joes in would ‘cheapen’ the Transformers world.
Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing this crossover and hoping it’ll lead to a MASK movie down the line, but let’s get a good GI Joe/Transformers movie first and then we can look forward to what comes next but, building on Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts is a good start as both were solidly entertaining movies.
Let me know your thoughts, guys.
UPDATE:
Producer Lorenzo DiBonaventra has said the movie will be a Transformers movie primarily with a few GI Joe characters introduced into the story rather than a full-on crossover… at least in the first movie. He also feels confident that while the script is still being developed, Prime, Bumblebee will return and the Maximals will be delved further into.
Check out the interview:
TRANSFORMERS X GI JOE is NOT a crossover film in the traditional sense.
Rather it’s a Transformers film first and foremost with a sprinkle of Joe Characters in to make the human characters more iconic.
