You may recall that we have reported a couple of times that Christian Bale may re-appear in the upcoming Flash movie (here and here), well now the rumor is back and looking like it may actually happen… with a small caveat.
The rumour originally was that Bale may return as Batman in the Flash movie if Michael Keaton couldn’t do it – well, we now know that Keaton and Ben Affleck will both appear in the movie as Batman from different worlds as Ezra Miller’s Flash crosses different realities and meets various versions of familiar characters.
Then the new rumour simply had it that Bale was sought to return for the movie, to return to the role that he made famous in the Dark Knight Trilogy and who we previously reported as having regrets about turning in the cape and cowl (here).
Well, the new report has it that the star has been approached for the gig and is up for appearing as the iconic hero in the 2022 movie but “will only show up in The Flash if he gets the seal of approval from Christopher Nolan, which is a huge showing of the mutual respect between the former collaborators.”
Nolan, of course, made the Dark Knight Trilogy and was responsible for making Batman the hero we needed after Batman & Robin made him a camp hero again and there’s no arguing that Bale played a big part in that with a superb performance, giving Batman the stoic hero personality he needed but also making Bruce Wayne a rounded-out and identifiable person under the armour.
His return would, of course, be welcome even if it’s only, as suspected, a brief cameo appearance. But it would be cool to see him after all these years, having left the crime-fighting behind and having settled down with Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle. Of course, we’re assuming that’s what he did given the ending of The Dark Knight Rises… but maybe it’s not what happened and that could be the fun of meeting him again.
